Thankful Day 10 – When Netflix Just Gets You

Some days you just have to be thankful for the little things – like when Netflix just GETS you.  Like really gets you.

I know its all some crazy algorithm and it’a not actually a person back there checking out my account going “hey, you know what I think she’s really be into this new movie.”  But sometimes the algorithm just works.

You come home, lose the work bindings, slip into your pjs, and settle in for a night entertainment and turning your brain off… and you flick over to that Netflix homepage… and you see an array of cheesy new rom coms and comedy specials – proving that the algorithm is working.

And, yeah, that’s pretty exciting.

But sometimes, Netflix sends you the preview email – the ‘hey buddy, we’ve got something new we think you’ll like’ email – and it just hits the nail on the head.

I’m perfectly willing to be open about my taste in entertainment – it follows the Matthew McConaughey in “Dazed and Confused” theory of red heads, “I keep getting older, they stay the same age.”

When I was young, I loved high school movies and television because I couldn’t wait to get there.

When I was in high school, I loved them because they were about me.  I finally understood.

Now, I love them because there is something so beautifully pure and tragic and psychotic and romantic about that time in your life. All boxes checked.

So when Netflix serves me up an email about a bunch of friends crossing paths – a la Crash – over the course of a day – I’m in (and realistically I’m probably going to watch it several times) but when they out do themselves and make it a holiday movie (and they are playing fast and loose with the term this November) all I have to say is, “Pass the popcorn.”

(And don’t worry, there is a full round up of this year’s Holiday Movie selection coming your way soon!)
